You can collect cards by purchasing stuff on Steam ($10 equals a card if I recall correctly), or by making use of the discovery option in the store, or going manually to buy them at the marketplace. With all collected you may transform them into a badge, grants 100xp for your Steam account and 3 digital perks, or you could sell them for 10 cents each more or less. The badge has 5 levels, so you may want to collect 5 times the full set of normal cards for 500xp total. And that's more or less it. Lots of games do have cards and badges too. But these winter sale cards are an event just until the second of January. Then you can still buy or sell them, but no new cards will be generated by purchasing stuff on Steam. Also remember 1% of all cards may be foil versions of them, worth around $1 (depending on the day... Today, the winter foil cards are worth almost a couple of dollars)

As far as I have tested every time you craft a badge you get a Winter sale 2024 card. Wanted to put this out their so people don't think its just from purchasing stuff to earn cards.

[PSA] Looks like no more free event cards during Steam Sales

So, back in the day they used to give you THREE free Sales Cards daily for clearing Discovery Queue (good old times!..). A few years ago they changed it to ONE per day... Oh well, still free stuff: craft a few game badges, check DQ during event - and here you get 2-3-4 free levels of sales badge. Right? Well, looks like NO more - here's what official Steam Sale Trading Cards & Badge FAQ says, "quote on quote":
How do I get Steam Sale trading cards? Steam Sale cards are only available during the Summer and Winter Sales. There are a few ways to get the cards:
- Craft a game badge Starting one week prior to the start of the sale, crafting a game badge earns you a mystery card. During the sale, each game badge you craft will get you an additional Steam Sale Trading Card.
- Make a purchase As an extra reward for purchasing, for every $10 USD spent during the sale you’ll receive a Steam Sale Trading Card. From your sale badge page select “How do I get more cards?” to track your purchasing progress.
- Trade for them That’s why they’re called trading cards! Find friends with other cards and make trades. Your Steam Sale badge page shows which friends have the cards you need.
- Buy them from the Community Market Sell the cards you don’t need and buy the ones you do, all with other Community members on the Community Marketplace. Turn those duplicate cards into Steam Wallet funds to buy games.

3. Explore Your Discovery Queue
If you’re a non-limited account, you’ll earn one Steam Sale trading card every day of the sale by going through all of the items in your daily Steam Discovery Queue. (If you become non-limited before the end of the sale and have completed at least one queue after doing so, you’ll be granted any missed cards for completing your queue).
With free sales cards removed for Steam Awards voting in 2023 and replaced by stickers (proof #1: https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/18jaec5/steam_will_no_longer_give_cards_when_voting_for/ proof #2: https://store.steampowered.com/steamawards/2024 ) - it's either spend cash, craft game badges or buy/trade sales cards for event badge from now on.

Top Comment: I know most people don't care about these, but I enjoyed collecting event badges, so I'm kinda annoyed about this change. I guess cards will be more expensive now since you gotta spend $10 for one? Fucking lame.
